Find your official evacuation zone

Evacuation orders are issued by your local authority — these official tools show your exact zone and its current status.

Evacuation orders, warnings & zones — what they mean

Terminology varies by area; always follow your local authority’s exact wording.

Evacuation Order

Leave now. There is an immediate threat to life. Roads and services may close; you may not be able to return for some time.

Evacuation Warning

Be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. A potential threat exists. Those needing extra time (animals, mobility, medical) should leave now.

Shelter in Place

Stay where you are and remain indoors. Used when evacuating would be more dangerous than staying.

Normal / Advisory

No active order. Know your zone now so you can act instantly if that changes.

Fire evacuation map FAQ

How do I find my fire evacuation zone?

Search your address in your area’s official evacuation-zone tool. Across California and much of the West, that’s Genasys Protect (protect.genasys.com), which shows your zone ID and its current status — Normal, Warning, or Order. Watch Duty also shows zones during active incidents. Use the "Check my location" tool on this page for live fire-weather alerts at your exact point, then confirm your zone status in the official tool.

What’s the difference between an evacuation order and a warning?

An Evacuation Order means leave now — there’s an immediate threat to life. An Evacuation Warning means be ready to leave at a moment’s notice; if you need extra time (livestock, mobility needs, medical equipment), you should leave during the warning. Some areas use the Ready-Set-Go framework, where Set is the warning and Go is the order.

Is this evacuation map official?

No — FireRisk.ai is for awareness and early planning, not official orders. We show live wildfire perimeters from NIFC and active alerts from the National Weather Service, and we link you to the official tools (Genasys Protect, Watch Duty, CAL FIRE, your county) that issue actual evacuation zones and orders. Always follow your local authority and call 911 in an emergency.

How do I know if I need to evacuate?

Use the "Check my location" tool above for live NWS alerts and the nearest active fire, then check your official evacuation zone status. If your zone is under an Order, leave immediately. If it’s under a Warning, be ready and leave early if you need extra time. When in doubt, leave — wildfires move faster than people expect, and roads clog quickly.

Where can I see evacuation maps for a specific fire?

During a named incident, the fastest official sources are Watch Duty, the county or CAL FIRE incident page, and Genasys Protect for zone status. You can also open that fire’s page on FireRisk.ai for its live size, containment, and map.

FireRisk.ai is for awareness, not emergency guidance, and does not issue evacuation orders. Live data: NIFC (fires) and the National Weather Service (alerts). For official evacuation orders and zones, use Genasys Protect, Watch Duty, CAL FIRE, and your county — and call 911 in an emergency.
